Spennymoor Town midfielder Jamie Chandler is celebrating in his professional life after guiding his Sunderland Scholars U19 team to a national championship final.
Jamie works for The Foundation of Light outside of his time on the pitch for The Moors and has close links with the SAFC Academy. His side will live the dream by playing on the pitch at The Stadium of Light in the National Football League Development Trophy against Brighton on 24 May.
Jamie said: “I’m really proud of the lads, because many of them are playing above their age level and a lot of them are first years. There are professional sides in the competition and there was also due to be a SAFC development game on the day of the final, but they’re now playing at the Academy to allow us to use the pitch at the stadium, which is a great privilege for all of us.
“It’ll be a great day for everyone involved and we hope to see plenty there supporting the young lads.
“Also, we’re holding some open trials for people wanting to get involved with the squad on 20 April this year. If anyone would like to know more, please email me.”

The eagle-eyed will have spotted Jamie appearing on Match of the Day last Saturday, when the BBC covered Jordan Pickford and Jermain Defoe’s visit to meet his team and lend a hand in training.
The Foundation teams educate their players simultaneously, with a focus on helping them get into a career after either leaving an Academy or an equivalent.
