Remembering David "Kid" Curry

The club is saddened to hear of the passing of former player David “Kid” Curry.

David was a Spennymoor man through and through.  He had a long and successful career with Spennymoor United after coming up through the junior side and lived just yards away from The Brewery Field.

Nicknamed “Kid” after a popular TV character of his youth, he turned down a move to Football League outfits Plymouth Argyle and Darlington to stay at Spennymoor and went on to become a club legend with some memorable performances at both right back and in midfield.

David played and starred in the brilliant FA Trophy run in 1977/78, which ended in a 3-2 aggregate defeat across two legs to Leatherhead FC in the semi final.  It was unheard of for a Northern League outfit to get so far in the competition in those days, securing David and his team mates’ places in Moors folklore.

He will be missed by all at the club and we will be holding a minute’s silence in his memory ahead of the FA Cup game at home to Chorley Town.
